Annapurna Base Camp Lodges

Basic, cold, unforgettable lodges at 4,130 m inside the Sanctuary.

About this place

Summary

The handful of basic lodges at Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m), the highest overnight in the Sanctuary. Simple, cold, and unforgettable — you wake surrounded by an amphitheatre of 7,000–8,000 m peaks.

Why we picked it

It is the only way to wake up at sunrise inside the Annapurna Sanctuary — the defining experience of the trek.

Good for

Acclimatised trekkers committed to the high night, sunrise photographers, and bucket-list walkers.

Skip if

Skip the overnight if anyone in the group is showing altitude symptoms — descend instead.

Editorial guide

There are only a few lodges at Annapurna Base Camp, clustered together at 4,130 m. They are deliberately simple: thin-walled twin rooms, shared toilets, a busy dining hall, and a lot of blankets. Nobody comes here for comfort — they come to sleep inside the highest ring of mountains the trek can reach.

What to expect

Plan for cold nights well below freezing in season. Meals are limited and pricier than lower down (everything is carried or portered up), hot drinks are essential, and electricity and Wi-Fi are limited and charged for. A good sleeping bag rated to at least -10°C makes the night far more pleasant than relying on lodge blankets alone.

Useful caveat

Beds are limited and demand is high in peak season — in October especially, lodges can fill, and a guide phoning ahead from Chhomrong or Deurali is the safest way to secure space. Do not plan to push on if you arrive and feel unwell from the altitude.
