Mardi High Camp Lodges

Ridge-edge lodges below the fishtail, base for the Upper Viewpoint climb.

About this place

Summary

The small line of lodges at Mardi High Camp (about 3,550 m), perched on the ridge below Machhapuchhre. The launch point for the pre-dawn climb to the Upper Viewpoint, with some of the most dramatic lodge views in Nepal.

Why we picked it

It is the only sensible base for a clear-morning climb to the Mardi Upper Viewpoint, in a genuinely spectacular ridge setting.

Good for

Mardi trekkers, ridge-view lovers, and sunrise photographers comfortable with basic high lodges.

Skip if you want comfort or guaranteed warmth — this is an exposed, simple high camp.

Editorial guide

High Camp (around 3,550 m) is a handful of lodges strung along the narrow Mardi Himal ridge, directly beneath Machhapuchhre. It is the highest overnight on the Mardi trek and the launch point for the dawn climb to the Upper Viewpoint.

What to expect

Rooms are basic twins, the dining halls are cosy and social, and the views from the ridge — at sunset and sunrise — are the reason to stay. Expect cold nights, simple menus that get pricier with altitude, limited and paid charging, and unreliable Wi-Fi.

Useful caveat

High Camp has limited beds and gets busy in peak autumn; arriving early or booking ahead through a guide matters here. The ridge is exposed to weather — if a storm rolls in, the lodges can be cold and visibility poor, so build a flexible day into the plan.

Mardi Himal Trek

A short, scenic ridge trek east of the Annapurna Sanctuary, climbing through moss-draped forest to High Camp and a 4,200 m viewpoint almost beneath Machhapuchhre. The best "quiet, high, and quick" option in the Annapurnas — 4–5 days, moderate effort, dramatic payoff.

It delivers near-Sanctuary altitude and the best close-up fishtail views in the region on a short, quieter trek.
