The Mardi Himal Upper Viewpoint (around 4,200 m) is the high turnaround of the Mardi Himal trek, reached on a steep, exposed walk up the ridge from High Camp (3,550 m). It puts you almost directly beneath Machhapuchhre, with Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Mardi Himal itself filling the skyline.
Why go
Mardi stayed quiet long after the bigger Annapurna routes filled up, and the upper ridge still feels wilder and more intimate than Poon Hill or the Sanctuary. The reward-to-effort ratio is excellent: a short trek, but a genuinely high, dramatic finish.
When to go
Most trekkers leave High Camp before dawn to reach the viewpoint for clear morning skies, as cloud often builds by late morning. Autumn and spring are best. The ridge is narrow and can be icy or snow-covered in winter and early spring.
Useful caveat
The push to the Upper Viewpoint gains height fast on an exposed ridge — turn around at the Lower Viewpoint (around 3,900 m) if weather closes in or anyone in the group feels the altitude. There is no lodge above High Camp.
