Summary
One of Buddhism's great pilgrimage sites: the spot where the Buddha — in a previous life as a prince — offered his body to a starving tigress and her cubs. Today a large Tibetan monastery complex (Thrangu Tashi Yangtse) crowns the hill with prayer flags, a giant Amitabha statue, and mountain air. Reachable by road or on foot from Dhulikhel or Panauti.
