Bhaktapur

Destination

Bhaktapur

Historic city known for its preserved medieval architecture and Newari culture.

Bhaktapur, the "City of Devotees," sits just 13 km east of Kathmandu and is one of the three historic cities of the Kathmandu Valley. Its 55‑ hectare walled core is a living museum of Newar architecture, bronze‑work and courtyards, largely untouched by modern development.

Why Visit

Bhaktapur offers an immersive glimpse into medieval Nepalese life: narrow brick lanes, intricately carved wooden windows, and the ever‑present aroma of fresh buffalo milk curd (juju). The city’s festivals—especially Bisket Jatra in mid‑April—turn the streets into a vibrant procession of chariots and drums.
