MakwanpurAttraction
“Night 1: Newar village homestay, goat-cheese farm, and a slow farm dinner.”

Summary
An easy one- to two-night escape over the southern rim of the valley: a Newar village homestay in Chitlang, boating on the Kulekhani reservoir, and an optional sunrise detour to Daman's Himalayan view tower.
Why this guide
It is the most accessible "real getaway" from Kathmandu — village, lake, and big mountains in one short, flexible loop.
Good for
Couples, families, first weekend escapes, slow travel, and easy rural hiking.
Story
When you want out of Kathmandu without committing to a trek, the hills of Makwanpur southwest of the valley are the easiest answer. This loop strings together a village homestay, a lake, and — if you have the extra night — one of the best mountain viewpoints in the country.
Drive from Kathmandu over the Thankot–Godam road to Chitlang (about 2 hours) and settle into a homestay: village lanes, the goat-cheese farm, and a slow farm dinner. The next morning, hike or drive down to Markhu and the Indra Sarovar (Kulekhani) reservoir for boating and a lakeside fish lunch before heading home.
With a second night, continue west to Daman on the Tribhuvan Highway and stay over for a sunrise that, on a clear day, runs from Dhaulagiri to Everest.
The hill roads are rough in patches, so a jeep or sturdy car (or a confident local driver) makes the trip smoother. Go in autumn, winter, or spring for clear skies; the loop is least rewarding in heavy monsoon.
