Daman sits at about 2,320 m on the historic Tribhuvan Highway between Kathmandu and Hetauda, roughly 80 km and three hours southwest of the city. On a clear morning it offers one of the most complete Himalayan horizons accessible by road — a sweep that can run from Dhaulagiri in the west to the Everest group in the east.
Why visit
For mountain views, few road-accessible spots near Kathmandu rival Daman. A telescope-fitted view tower lets you pick out individual peaks, and the cool ridge air and rhododendron forest make it a refreshing overnight.
Highlights
- Panoramic sunrise views across the central and eastern Himalaya
- The Daman view tower with mounted telescope
- Rhododendron forest and quiet ridge walks
- The scenic, winding drive on the old Tribhuvan Highway
Practical tips
Views are entirely weather-dependent — autumn and spring mornings are most reliable. Stay overnight near the viewpoint so you are in place for sunrise rather than racing up pre-dawn from Kathmandu. Leave the Kathmandu–Pokhara highway at Naubise toward Hetauda.
