Summary

Holi (Fagu Purnima) is Nepal's festival of colors, and Basantapur Durbar Square hosts its ceremonial heart — the chir pole hung with cloth flags goes up a week early, then on the day itself the old city erupts in colored powder, water balloons, drums, and dancing. The hilly regions including Kathmandu celebrate a day ahead of the Terai.
