The small island at Taudaha Lake

LakeKathmandu

Taudaha Lake

The valley's little birding lake — winter migrants, fish feeding, and an easy afternoon loop.

About this place

Summary

A small sacred lake on the valley's southern edge, ringed by fish-food vendors and quiet corners — and one of the best spots inside the valley to watch migratory waterbirds in winter: cormorants, egrets, black-headed gulls, and more. Legend holds it as the remnant pool left when Manjushri drained the great lake that was the valley.

Skip in late spring — low water and fewer birds make it a plain pond.
