KathmanduAttraction
“A peaceful hilltop hour among prayer halls and gardens before the evening at the stupa. Check access if a retreat is on.”

Summary
A calm late-afternoon-into-dusk plan around Boudhanath: a hilltop monastery, the great stupa as the lamps are lit, and dinner on a rooftop above the kora.
Why this guide
Dusk is when Boudha comes alive — this plan times the kora and a rooftop dinner for the most atmospheric hour of the day.
Good for
Evenings, couples, slow travel, photographers, and anyone drawn to living Buddhist ritual.
Skip if
Skip in heavy rain, when rooftops close and the circuit empties out.
Story
Boudha is at its best as the day cools. This plan eases into the evening: an unhurried hour at a hillside monastery, then the great stupa just as the butter lamps come on and the circuit fills with pilgrims, and finally dinner on a rooftop overlooking it all.
Start up at Kopan Monastery in the afternoon for a quiet, contemplative hour. Drop down to Boudhanath in the late afternoon and join the clockwise kora as the light softens and the lamps are lit — the most atmospheric time to be there. When you're ready to eat, climb to Stupa View (or another of the rooftop restaurants ringing the stupa) for dinner with the dome glowing below.
Short on time? Skip Kopan and simply arrive at Boudha an hour before sunset. Walk the circuit clockwise, keep to the flow of pilgrims, and step into the side lanes for quieter courtyards.
